PAT BORAN was born in Portlaoise in 1963 and currently lives in Dublin. The recipient of the Patrick Kavanagh Award in 1989, he has since published four individual collections of poetry, and his New and Selected Poem, with an Introduction by Dennis O'Driscoll, was first published by Salt Publishing, UK, in 2005 and reissued in 2007 by Dedalus.

In addition to poetry, and poetry in translation, he has published a collection of short stories, a short fiction title for children, shortlisted for the Bisto Book of the Year Awardand his non-fiction includes the popular writers' handbook The Portable Creative Writing Workshop (1999), reissued in a revised and expanded edition in 2005 (New Island). Since 2005 Pat Boran has been Publisher of the Dedalus Press and currently present the weekly Poetry Programme on RTE Radio 1. In 2007 he was elected to the membership of Aosdana.
