Ester Perel

Esther Perel is a couples and family therapist with a private practice in New York City. She is an acknowledged authority on cultural identity, cross cultural relations and ethnic and religious intermarriage and she has also led private and public interventions around the World.

Ms Perel, fluent in eight languages, has a private psychotherapy with many multilingual clients. Mating in Captivity: Reconciling the Erotic and the Domestic is her first book and caused a media furore even before it's release.

From the moment the tentative synopsis was released last year to a selection of US publishers a bidding war began and Perel became a media phenomenon and appeared on both the Oprah Winfrey Show and on CBS This Morning. Perel's book attempts to explore the difference between love and desire and attempts to explain why some long term relationships lead to a less than satisfactory sexual and erotic life.

Reviews for her book have all been rapturous and it has been described as "fearless, revelatory" and according to the New Yorker it reads like a cross between the work of psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan and French Women Don't Get Fat!

Esther Perel lives with her husband and two children in New York.
