J A N E    U R Q U H A R T

Jane Urquhart was born in northern Canada and grew up in Cramahe township, Northumberland County, and in Toronto. She is the author of three books of poetry, a collection of short fiction, and six acclaimed novels. Her fiction has been published in over a dozen countries, has been translated into numerous foreign languages and has earned her awards and honours including the Governor General’s Award for Fiction, the Marian Engle Prize, the Trillium Award, The Harbourfront International Festival Prize, and France’s prestigious Prix du Meilleur Livre Etranger. Her books have also been short listed and long listed for a number of international prizes including the Giller Prize, Orange Prize, The International Dublin IMPAC literary award and the Booker Prize.

She has given readings and lectures worldwide, has been named a Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters in France, and was recently appointed as an Officer to the Order of Canada.

Jane Urquhart is Director of the CREATIVE WRITING (ADVANCED) WORKSHOP at Listowel Writers' Week 2006.
