Born 1956, of Irish-British descent James
Harpur is a poet, multi-award winner and free-lance writer.
Growing up with English and Irish parents, Harpur’s
poetry reaches its wide international audience with its distinctly
multicultural view.
Educated at Cambridge, Harpur has received many
prestigious writing grants and titles, including the Eric Gregory
award in 1985. The winner of the Poetry Society’s National
Poetry Competition in 1995 and awarded with an Arts Council bursary
in 1996, Harpur’s published collections include A Vision
of Comets (Anvil Press, 1993), The Monk’s Dream
(Anvil Press, 1996) and his most recent, Oracle Bones
(Anvil Press, 2001). He currently resides in Clonakilty.
