Cuirim fáilte fial flaithiúil romhat
chuig Seachtain na Scríbhneoirí 2006. I would like
to extend a warm Kerry welcome to you, to the marvellous market-town
of Listowel – the Real, Live, Un-Plugged, Undisputed Irish
Capital of Culture!
Indeed the charm of Listowel lies in it’s
compact inimitable size, it’s amiable shape, its friendly
structure. Here in this concentrated, homely hub of cultural activity,
you can rub shoulders with a world-class author, converse with
a lively local character or glean inspiration from the River Feale,
the life-blood of the town.
It is not an arduous task to sell the 2006 Writers’
Week programme to the average punter. We have even passed our
own expectations this year with a racy, thrilling schedule suitable
for all. The crême de la crême of local, national
and international artists will stimulate and satisfy an array
of atmospheric venues. Writers' Week 2006 is a festival of abundance.
There are additional workshops from short
fiction to poetry
to memoir to crime
and freelance journalism.
There are more competitions on stream this year including a One-Act
Play and an Adult Seanchaí/Storytelling competition. There
is even more theatre, art, music, comedy and a fresh, innovative
children’s programme.
The sky is literally the limit! Embrace this programme.
Be seduced by this festival. Seize Writers' Week by the scruff
of the neck. and live it up! Above all, tá súil
agam go mbeidh spórt, spraoi agus scléip agat! The
gates of the Kingdom of Kerry are open unto you in the lovely
land of Listowel.
