Christine Dwyer Hickey was born in Dublin. Twice winner of the Listowel Writer's Week short story competition, she has also been a winner in the prestigious Observer/Penguin short story competition.

New Island is now re-issuing her Dublin Trilogy: The Gambler, The Gatemaker and The Dancer, which was short-listed for the Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award. Her 2004 novel Tatty was hailed by the critics as a masterpiece and went on to become a best seller. She was short-listed for the Hughes & Hughes Irish Novel of the Year and long-listed for the International Orange Prize.
